Born into Fame recap: Is AJ ready to walk down the aisle?
Although AJ has met the love of his life, it doesn’t look like he’s ready to walk down the aisle. This was shared during a conversation with his mother on the latest episode of Born into Fame. The DJ paid his mother a visit to share a special moment with her, but he wasn’t ready for where the conversation would go.
“Something has also arrived,” he told his mother. AJ showed her his certificate. “So, I studied a BCom in strategic management degree. The degree took ten years because so much happened in my life.” He mentioned that in those 10 years, he was kicked out of his father’s house, and he went “from something to nothing” and had to rebuild himself “Those ten years defined who I am today and there’s no one who’s going to take that away from me.”
Societal pressure for marriage

While this was a proud moment for AJ, his mother reminded him: “There’s another person that we have to give credit to… Sindi.”
AJ explained that Sindiswa is the love of his life. “Sindi is my guardian angel,” he said. His mother brought up the wedding conversation, something that AJ has been avoiding. He asked his mother: “Why do you parents always pressure us into getting married?”. She replied: “Stability.”
However, AJ feels that he is stable where he is at the moment. “I have my business; I have my music… I have my own place. Why must marriage be the thing that makes you feel like I am now stable, I am now together?” He doesn’t get why weddings mean so much to people because they are expensive. “No, it’s not a defining thing. Because you are thirty it doesn’t mean now get married. No,” he said.
Getting cold feet

His mother then encouraged him to go and “sign” at Home Affairs. But AJ knows that that’s not what she really wants for him. “She’s got parents, and we must honour their daughter,” his mother told him. “In terms of the lobola, I’ve gotten cold feet. I feel like I had cold feet while negotiating. I feel like I got cold feet when I said, ‘will you marry me’. I feel like I got cold feet through the entire process, but it’s a big decision to make. I’m supposed to have cold feet,” AJ shared.
AJ also wonders if Sindiswa is ready for the pressure that comes with carrying the Mafokate surname. Will he take the plunge? Watch new episodes of Born into Fame every Tuesday on Showmax.
